RACHEL YELLAND

TEACHER

Bachelor of Creative Industries (Dance)

Graduate Diploma of Education (Early Childhood)

I’m Rachel, qualified early years teacher, educational lead, lover of dance & movement and a cheerleader for the development of children’s wellbeing.

As a kindergarten teacher my passion is to develop and encourage a child’s sense of self through play-based projects. To further my teaching philosophy I travelled overseas to Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Italy and England to volunteer, teach and work in different cultural and environmental settings.

In 2016 I returned from London where I worked as teacher in an outdoor forest school. I continue to use the outdoors in my teaching as it is a perfect environment for children to learn and develop their creativity and be inspired by the movement of nature.

I am looking forward to a great year of learning and playing with UMG kindy children.

MELISSA SELBY

ASSISTANT TEACHER

Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education)

I have worked in kindergartens for the last 15years, first in New Zealand, before coming to Australia with my partner and two children. I have been part of the Upper Mount Gravatt kindergarten for the last 2 years.

My passion as a teacher is to encourage children to build independent skills and to build confidence in themselves as capable communicators and learners.

I enjoy engaging in cooking experiences and activities which allow children to build life skills which will serve them well, now and in the future.

Building relationships with the children and their families throughout their time at the kindergarten, offers me opportunities to learn about new cultures through social events we hold throughout the year.
